GEMS World Academy, Tianjin
The project calls for innovative design concepts for an IB academy which accommodates approximately 2,000 students, ranging from nursery to high school.

The design of the campus aspires to create a stimulating environment that offers opportunities for active, participatory and inter-disciplinary learning. The academy contains state-of-the-art, cutting edge facilities to reflect new learning paradigms, thus bringing greater meaning beyond the physical design of a school.

The academy is a quality education facility not only with excellent curriculum and facilities, but also with sustainable design features, in line with Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City ecological framework.

Green Design
Conscious of the earth's dwindling supply of carbon-based fuel, GEMS believes that education requires energy security. This means that alternative energy is required to reduce reliance on carbon-based fuel to the minimum. Children also need to be educated on the importance of finding alternative energy resources for the survival of future generations.

GEMS World Academy's green features are the use of high efficiency air-conditioning, natural ventilation, solar hot water heating, rainwater harvesting, photovoltaic cells, a geothermal heat pump, energy-efficient lighting, solar lighting, carbon monoxide gas and carbon dioxide gas monitoring and control, and individual metering.
