CPG Consultants is appointed by Singapore Sports Council following a limited design competition to provide full design consultancy services for Singapore’s first “green” sports complex, a facility that is designed with environmentally-friendly and energy-saving features.
This new Pasir Ris Sports complex sits on a 1.4-hectare site and has facilities such as swimming pools, a 2,000-seat multipurpose sports hall, a gymnasium with pool view and tennis courts.
The design draws inspiration from its natural green surroundings, incorporating tropical and green elements into the building. It adopts a 'Sports in a Park' concept, and strives to integrate the facilities seamlessly with the existing town park. The project features heat-reducing sunshades, vertical green walls and landscaping to reduce ambient heat gain, rainwater harvesting to irrigate the plants, energy-efficient fittings and environmentally-friendly products like low-volatile organic compound paint, recycled timber, and photovoltaic solar panels. The external elevation is characterised by sheltered verandas with overhanging eaves. Higher ceilings for better natural ventilation, a sense of spaciousness and lush tropical landscaping also give the complex a rustic 'kampong' resort ambience.
