Expansion of Changi Airport Terminal 1
The two new finger pier extensions added a total of 14 gatehold lounges. In plan, they pivot out from each existing pier to maintain control tower visibility to the aircraft apron. The circulation spine of each addition has a span of 18 metres - 3 metres wider on either side than the circulation of existing T1 and T2 piers. Frameless glass partitions separate new gatehold lounges from the circulation spine to maximise transparency and visually help expand the space. The external glazing is a curtain wall set at a 12.5-degree angle to reflect sunlight and reduce its direct penetration into the building. Two new concessions areas were also added over the existing apron road at the start of each pier.
