Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre
Bringing together the old market and food center at HDB Blk 119-125 Commonwealth Crescent, the upgraded 26-year old Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre boasts a “festival” setting with the use of bright, cheery colours, “wave-like” roof forms and a centralized pedestrian mall. The “carnival” mood is further enhanced with the use of sensual curves and canvas sails, simulating banners and flags in the wind. The colourful exterior draws a symbiotic respond with the neighbours and together, enlivens the common spaces they share in between. The centre stands out in the estate, and yet integrated well with all its existing facilities.

The centre houses a total of 62 market stalls, selling a great variety of goods and products and accommodates 39 food stalls. Amid the playful colours and over 450 seats, patrons may choose to gather in large group-seats of up to eight or in pockets of more private seats. The young, elderly and handicapped are not left out with the provisions of lifts, escalators, toilets, and tables designed for the comfort of wheelchair-bound. Stall owners are not left out in the improved operating environment, with the provision of proper service corridors away from the display areas. Generous circulation areas to accommodate weekend crowds and yet allow stall fronts to be clearly visible are incorporated.

In contrast to the old food centre, all food stalls are equipped with exhaust hoods, pipes gas and hygienic cooking/ preparation areas. A separate and common dishwashing area has also been provided to further enhance the hygiene and cleanliness of the centre.
