Ground-Breaking Ceremony of Vinh Airport, Vietnam

As the nation of Vietnam prepared for their week's long Liberation Day celebration on 26 April 2013, Vinh City ― the birthplace of the beloved hero of national liberation, President Ho Chi Minh, in particular was bustling with the gathering of the National Assembly Chairman, the Party and State leaders, members of Politburo, revolution veterans, ministers and distinguished guests at the Vinh airport site to mark the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of a new Passenger Terminal Building.

CPG Consultants is honoured to be appointed as the principal design consultant for this development and also to be able to attend the prestigious ceremony.

The Passenger Terminal Building is designed to handle a capacity of 2 million passengers per annum at a development budget of USD 36 million. The Client, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam’s brief from our client, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam called for the New Terminal Building design to be contemporary in outlook. This enables a progressive image to be presented to the visitors and residents of the area and simultaneously relate to the lotus flower as a design expression for the Passenger Terminal Building, reflecting the inspiration of the “Lotus Village” to passengers arriving and departing from this new facility. The airport will be unique in terms of its functionality and efficiency. It is adaptable and internally flexible for international and domestic use.

The architectural expression elects to treat the form as one roof. The interpretation of the lotus is then studied as a structure and interpreted as tapering stem-like columns that rise from the ground-plane and flower as four-way angular-petal skylight molds. These feature structures and apertures pattern the double-height spaces with a play of light-openings and

faceted-surfaces above the Meeters & Greeters Plaza and the Arrival Baggage-Claim Hall. The composition of the roof is as an elegant modular assembly of light and surface, inspired by the cultural significance of the region to the whole nation of Vietnam.

Slated to open its doors to the public in end 2014, the new Vinh airport will be the iconic gateway to the Nghe An and the North Central region, providing wider connectivity to boost economic activities and tourism opportunities.

BCA Green Mark Platinum Award for Primary School at Bukit Panjang Site 16

The latest of our projects which has won the much coveted BCA Green Mark Platinum award is a new single session primary school sited at Bukit Panjang.

The design of the school seeks to continually stimulate students’ curiosity through built environments everywhere in the school. Fun learning spaces, group breakout areas and lush green landscaped spaces keep young minds captivated, promoting the culture of lifelong learning. Spatial flexibility or multiple usage spaces provide an active learning environment, encouraging social interaction and a comprehensive holistic education. It also further tests the idea of mid-rise schools in Singapore as land becomes increasingly sparse with an elevated playfield. The school also aims to foster ecological stewardship in its students by being one of MOE’s first Greenmark Platinum schools.

The school is slated to welcome its first batch of students next year.
