Masterplan of New Phu Quoc International Airport
Located off the far south coast of Vietnam, the island airport master plan envisions operational efficiency and balanced location of facilities. Relatively level terrain allows development without significant environmental impact. The runway orientation is with the prevailing east-west winds, across an irregularly shaped valley with mountains on both sides and sloping slightly towards one end. The surrounding terrain creates a natural catchment, with an existing watercourse in the north-west to channel airfield drainage. To the south, the centrepiece Passenger Terminal and associated development is located off an existing through road. The airport will serve an initial capacity of 2.65 million passengers per annum.

In terms of airport engineering, the airfield design includes a 3000m x 45m Category I precision approach instrument landing system (ILS) runway, 3200m long parallel taxiway, 4 entrance taxiways and 5 exit taxiways (of which 4 are rapid exit taxiways), apron taxiway and aircraft parking apron to accommodate 2 B747-size aircraft, 6 B737-size aircraft and 6 ATR72-size aircraft. It also includes airfield grading and earthwork, airfield drainage, aircraft pavement, pavement marking, airfield lighting and guidance sign system, airfield lighting control and monitoring system (ALCMS), DVOR/ DME navigational aids, meteorological and communication equipment, airport power supply, telecommunications, water supply and sewerage networks.
