Belo Horizonte Multi-Modal Corridor Structure Plan

Jurong Consultants has commissioned CPG Consultants to undertake transportation planning for the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region (BHMR) in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The scope includes a review of existing site situations, and a proposal for future land transportation networks comprising roads, highways, railways and transit systems, with connectivity to the airport and municipalities for their development.

Several trips were made to Brazil to meet the clients and relevant planning authorities to understand the local statutory requirements and to assess the existing situation in the municipalities identified in the masterplan. Based on the economic plan for the Belo Horizonte Metropolitan Region, future demand in public and private transportation was projected.

The transport modelling software, VISUM, was then used to assign the traffic to different parts of the planned developments based on the assessment years of 2015, 2020, 2025 and 2030. Outputs were analysed and reviewed to make sure the proposed roads and public transportation are adequately utilised.

The implementation requirements for road types and public transport modes were identified separately for the various assessment years. The team also proposed the connectivity of planned commercial hubs, logistic centre etc. to the international airport and the municipalities.
