Mechanical & Electrical Engineering Engineering (M&E)
The Mechanical & Engineering design strategy is predicated on the reduction of energy use for this round-the-clock facility. Extensive daylighting minimises the daytime use of artificial lighting, and also results in decreased cooling load. In its high-volume spaces, the air-conditioning is thermally stratified while airlocks check cooled-air loss. The intelligent building management system is interfaced with the flight schedule, controlling the switching on of lights and air-conditioning in the dedicated gate-hold rooms, just before they open for passenger waiting. Sensors were also provided for the control of toilet lights and to run escalators and moving sidewalks only when in use.
