Upgrading of Environment Building
The upgrading of the ENV Building was done in several phases and, apart from the renovation of 11 office floors, included the refurbishment of the VIP floor, public areas at the podium such as the cafeteria at 2nd storey and the 1st storey foyer, expansion of the theatrette as well as the creation of a new Customer Service Centre for the National Environment Agency at 2nd Storey.

The entire renovations were carried out with the aim of updating the image of the various spaces. At the VIP floor, the interiors of Minister’s and Minister-of-State’s offices were refurbished to give a more contemporary appearance with the area outside these offices expanded and re-configured to include a courtesy call room. The concept adopted for the cafeteria was to inject vibrancy and cheerfulness to the setting while bearing in mind the need for space efficiency. The capacity of the new theatrette was increased to cater to current needs, and the design includes a new stepped conical suspended ceiling that also provides better acoustics. As the building for the ministry promoting environmental friendly awareness, the renovation of ENV Building incorporated the use of recycled materials such as carpets, ceilings and fabrics for wall coverings and roller blinds. Consideration was also given to the selection of energy-efficient light fittings and chillers. Other energy saving measures, such as the linking of light fittings to motion sensors for adaptive means of on/off switching when meeting rooms and toilets are not in use and the use of auto-sensor/self-closing taps in toilets, have also been put in place.
