ABC Waters Programme (Sengkang Floating Wetland)
This is one of the projects implemented under PUB’s ABC waters programme, which aims to explore the Active, Beautiful and Clean qualities of local water catchment areas. The objective of the proposal is to integrate Sungei Punggol into the development of Sengkang Fruit Park, Anchorvale Community Centre and Sports Complex, creating a dynamic recreational node. Sengkang Floating Wetland is Singapore's first man-made floating island, located in the midst of Punggol Reservoir. It is the size of half a football field.

The Sengkang Floating Wetland is designed with a focus on mangroves and wetlands. With its design theme “Discover Nature”, it takes on a fragmented, soft and exploratory concept. A fixed bridge connects it to Anchorvale Community Centre and Sports Complex, and a floating boardwalk to existing mangroves on the eastern side of the river. These mangroves will be gradually replaced by freshwater species. Installations for learning, such as periscopes to examine the wetland, are installed. The wetland acts as a habitat for fish and birds and improves the landscape.

Environmental Engineering
CPG consultants was also engaged to conduct a hydraulic assessment on the site, estimating the maximum flow velocity around the Sengkang Floating Wetland when all three gates are opened during a 50-year Annual Recurrence Interval (ARI) storm. The analysis was carried out using a XP-SWMM dynamic stormwater model, and based on these results, we proposed dredging measures to reduce the maximum flow velocity to safe levels.
